Chef Lauren Owens
From a pickle, stumbling upon a 'Hill', Executive Chef, to building my own business. I grew up in a family full of members that truly enjoyed cooking, never knowing I could make it a career. I started my culinary journey at a local sub shop chasing my pickle obsession, and as I grew older it turned into a love affair and a chase for knowledge in the field.
After 2 years learning the basics of cooking at a local sub shop I worked my way to Charlie Browns steakhouse where as the first woman line cook in the chain, I gained the majority of my line chops and culinary acuity. My cooking career then led me to the Hilton Short Hills where I spent 5 years moving around the kitchen in a restaurant which at the time was the only 5 diamond in New Jersey. During this time I also I earned my associates degree in applied science and culinary arts from Middlesex County College where I spent a few semesters as an adjunct professor which allowed me to keep my practical culinary skills sharp and mentor up and coming chefs.
Eventually making my way into NYC I spent two years working in a small restaurant that specializes in cooking classes. During that time I focused on becoming well-rounded in baking and pastry techniques and various ethnic cuisines. I also spent my free time at Blue Hill NYC, where I built many strong relationships with the team along with developing a personal relationship with Chef Dan Barber. This has afforded me access to his kitchens and events, including a New York Times Chef Conference, food for tomorrow where I volunteered in the kitchen cooking for his esteemed guests. I joined the Harvest Restaurant group in 2008 at the Huntley Taverne as a sous chef, working my way to Chef de Cuisine. I ended my stint as the Executive Chef of Urban Table in Morristown in 2017.
I am now building my brand and own business as a personal chef. I believe in locality, seasonality and simplicity. It is my mission to keep the integrity of the ingredient and allowing it to stand out is my main goal in creating. I focus on taking a little piece of everything I've learned over the last 20 years and pouring it into my brand and my clients.
I am extremely health and wellness passionate. I devote my time and effort to educating and helping people get to their health and weight goals, along with helping them understand the power of healthy eating. Partnering with gyms and trainers to include Fit for Life in Marlboro and Gym Guyz Metuchen has provided me with plenty of people eager to learn more about food. It's not a diet it's a lifestyle. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring or ‘gross’.
A chef by trade and spirit. 20 years industry experience to include Executive Chef. My business as a Personal Chef is being built around bringing happiness, awareness and knowledge through my food, classes and seminars.
Make today great (and eat your veggies)!!
